Audience: Spanish speaking Americans with prediabetes
Responsibilities: Instructional Design, Visual Design
Tools Used: Lumen5, Premiere Pro
The Problem
The American Diabetes Association finds that many people with prediabetes often lack the awareness on how to prevent or delay diabetes.
The Solution
I developed animated informational videos in Spanish that teach life skills: How to read the nutrition label, understanding foods groups, healthy ways to cook, what to think about when grocery shopping, managing sugar intake and how to portion out a meal with the plate method.
My Process
After an initial discussion with the client, identifying the problem, and working with a team of Spanish speaking Subject Matter Experts who crafted scripts, I moved into designing the visual experiences.
As per Mayer’s Principles of Multimedia Learning, I prioritized the temporal and spatial contiguity of content as to show the visuals of an idea side by side with the text explaining it and doing so with animations that engage the viewer.
Prototype
I created a prototype of the videos for review from client, where the script was then reevaluated and revised for maximum clarity and understanding. The feedback process was continuous with every iteration of the project.
Full Development
After a few revisions the script was finalized, visuals were approved and the final 6 animated experiences and overview video were approved and sent to client.
Reflection
I found value in receiving feedback and leaned into the SMEs knowledge to develop the final version. Throughout the development process, I implemented changes that kept the learner engaged and informed on best practices to prevent or delay diabetes through animation and visual aids.
